Summary of ASNR Visiting Professor Trip to Brazil

Dates of visit:  September 10 – 20, 2017

Sao Paulo/Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Outstanding trip.

The host group was extremely welcoming in both Sao Paulo and Rio.  On my first day on campus, I spent the morning session interacting with residents and fellows in a Socratic case-based teaching session.  I gave two didactic lectures at a CME evening meeting, including multiple members of the host Radiology group.  Second day included a visit to a second hospital, additional case-based teaching sessions, and the travel to Rio.

In Rio, I participated in multiple case-based learning sessions with residents.  In addition, I gave 3 – 4 lectures on topics which included spine tumors and CSF leak: Diagnosis and Treatment.  The host Radiology group transported me to and from venues, and they made sure I felt safe and welcome in all environments.  They are an amazing, growing organization.  I am sure I learned more from them, than they learned from me.  The education I received included both Radiology and business areas of focus.

I am hopeful that the relationships developed during this ten-day visit will be maintained for a lifetime.  I would strongly recommend continued engagement with this group. They are excellent partners.
